Before we learn the techniques to top rankings for them we first need to know that long tail keywords will generate great traffic for us because they are easy to obtain and we can obtain multiple ones in a short period of time!

Alright so the first part in this basic 3 step plan to obtain long tail keywords is social bookmarks. The reason I prefer these over generic links is because you can obtain large quantities of them in a fairly short time frame. Google will index your page within hours of submitting to the socials and you will start ranking just as quick. Depending on the long tail keyword (some are harder then others) you will see a ranking time between 24-48 hrs.
Directories
After you get a handful of social bookmarks pointing to your long tail keywords submit that page into directories as well. Directories create great authority in the engines and life without them is simply pain! Get into all the best ones you can, even spending a few bucks for bigger directories like Yahoo or Business is not a bad idea.
SEO URLS

I use a piece of software that helps me find long tail keywords quickly. It tells me not only how many searches per month for any given phrase, but also shows me, exact matches, PPC cost, and best of all… a strength of competition warning. This way I know whether I have lots of competing websites.
I truly can find at least 12 potential niches a day- its addictive!

Great points above! I think the most important is the Search Engine Friendly URL’s. Even if you do nothing else, that will help you out so much, just because that’s what the search engines like to see.

And to echo Ecommerce Blog’s question … which directories do you recommend from amongst the hundreds that exist online?
Social bookmarking sites are by far the most useful for this purpose. I’m not sure how well directories would work, as they don’t typically accept deep links.
I prefer the social bookmarks over generic links as well. My buddy likes the generic. Glad to see you agree with me.

Some directories really still works today but quite a few such as you have mentioned. But I still like the old fashion way, natural link building due to quality content.
