Below are five things that will help make you next video blog successful.
Good Lighting - This is one of the most important aspects of a video. Without good lighting people won’t be able to see your face and the video will be very fuzzy. So to make sure you have good lighting I suggest having at least 2 100 Watt lights, one on either side of you. Make sure both of the lights have the same Wattage or you’ll end up with a shadow effect on your face. If you can afford it I recommend having a floodlight or two. If you use a floodlight make sure it is behind the camera and centered on your face.
Good Intro - If you have a bad intro, or not one at all, people usually won’t stay and watch your entire video. A good intro should catch the viewers attention and get them interested in what you have to say. Usually a good intro is comical and features the host doing something odd, or “stupid”. If you’d like to go the more serious route you can have a few pictures of your self with words that describe your content popping up next to you.
Good Content- Like anything else on the internet, without good content no one will watch your video. But, on a video it helps to have content that you KNOW your visitors are interested in or like. So I recommend polling or asking your visitors what they want to hear/see. If you don’t have content that your visitors want, you may get some people to watch, but not the majority.
Comedy - This one is part of good content, but I believe it should be separate. Good content is a must, but without a little comedy it may seem a bit bland. I’ve watched tons of videos that had terrible content, but they were funny so I kept watching. If you have good content AND comedy, your video will be a success. Now I’m not saying you need to tell knock-knock jokes, but try and ad at least a little bit of humor. Good comedic moments are when you miss speak and keep going with it, then in editing add a sarcastic remark about how stupid what you said was, or something along those lines.
End with something that will make your visitors want to return - Always end the video with something that will intrigue the viewer to return to your site and watch and read your future content. For example: Say you have an article coming about how to do SEO. So at the end of your video say something like “Would you like some tips for SEO? Then check out my article ‘SEO the right way’ I’m posting on ______”
