Adsense After 1 Month

If you all haven’t already noticed by now, I have been running Adsense on this blog for just under 1 month now. I put adsense on this blog mainly for testing purposes after a friend of mine urged me to try it again with a couple of his tips at work.

While I am all for making more money off this blog I have never had much success with Adsense on any website so I have basically brushed it off to this point as a useless source of income.

After much deliberating I added it onto the blog beneath my posts hoping that those who read the posts would then click on the adsense hence making me money. After 7 or so days I noticed that I only got 1 click on the ads which was a CTR % of basically nothing for the amount of traffic I receive.

null

Next I tried adding the Adsense above the post so it was the first thing you saw before you started reading.

I then waited another 7 days and noticed that I received about 3 clicks on the ads. While thats certainly not HUGE it was a better CTR % for the traffic I had on those days (non posting days I might add).

Since starting Adsense on IBB just under 1 month ago I have generated about $13.00 in a month. (YIPPE!)

OK so its not huge but we have to start somewhere!

My goal is to continue tweaking the ads until they get to the point where I am making about $50/mo off them from this blog, I get enough traffic that I believe it is possible to do (you can help by clicking, just don’t tell that to google).

That brings me to the actual point of this post, I am sure you all have questions about Adsense and since I have been decently successful for my first month with it on this blog I thought I would reveal my 5 Adsense tips that should help you all make money with it!

Are you ready?

Above The Fold- Adsense seems to work best if you put it above or IN the content you provide. The reason this works is simple, people are lost when they come to your website so what do you want them to click on? Make it clear that they can click on the adsense by putting it above the fold!

Match Your Colors- The biggest Adsense tip I can give is this, people tell you all the time to place adsense but they never tell you about the customization option google gives you for the ads. Its important to note that you should match the link color and text / background color of the ads to that of your blog. By making it blend in visitors may click on it out of curiosity where as if its bold and stands out they can see its an add and they may not click on it.

Get That CTR% Up!- When it comes to adsense the key is your CTR %, work hard to get that up. You do this by testing and re-testing what works and what doesn’t, ad positions colors and types all can affect your CTR % so try until you get at least 5% or more!

Learn What A Channel Is!- When I first started with adsense I had no idea how to separate my ads by site so I could track which site got a click and which didn’t. The formula for this is called channels in your adsense panel, it will take some getting use to but I could maybe write a post on it if you comment below telling me you want it!

Explorer the Adsense panel- Its important to know what google offers you in the form of tools and tricks via the adsense panel, spend some time trying things and learning what all the offer, there is some goldmine stuff in their!

I wanted to know your thoughts on Adsense, is it worth be running it on my blog or should I try out kontera or other programs like that, I want Adsense to work but I won’t beat a dead horse either!

Have you read ebook of Joel Comm? It provides good methods to increase revenue from Adsense from A to z, check Google book review, the ebook is there for all to read.

I have also been using Adsense for about a month now and have found that at first I was making a bunch of money but now things have slowed a bit and the ads are different. I think I need to experiment with the placement and colors too… Do you know if you have to replace the adsense code every time you make changes to the channel?

  3. Organic traffic brings you clicks. SEO SEO SEO. Social traffic won’t get you anywhere unless they are friendly (like me *click*). But most people who come through social traffic know not to click ads..rather than those who come searching for knowledge via search engine

  4. I have never really tried or used AdSense on any of my blogs or websites ever. I have just heard how ineffective it is for making money, and I never really liked how slow it made some sites or how it looked. I just stick to selling banner ads on my site. I’ll keep updated on your AdSense stats though, it may sway me to think otherwise depending on your results. ;)

  5. Luca says:

I’ve read both sides of the adsense debate and I think it depends on what type of site the’re on. Internet Marketers don’t often click on adsense ads and may not even notice them. Niche sites on the other hand may have more success.
The adsense channel post is a good idea. I know it’s available but never spent much time looking into it.

How much traffic are you getting in order to get $20.00 per month?

  6. Jake says:

Nice info! Like you,i’ve been trying adsense in different ways w/o much success. I’m also trying kontera on another site but really don’t have enough traffic to tell if it’s worth it..

that being said, i believe traffic is a HUGE factor! I don’t know what your stats are, but if you look at say Shoemoney and what he does with adsense, then you’ll see it can be done!

Thanks for the tips! I’m going to work on that ad placement and see if I can tell a difference!

  7. Utilizing the use of channels and tracking the performance for separate sites is something I need to do. I didn’t really know what the purpose of channels were until now. Thanks for pointing this out, and hopefully I can get this setup. Figuring out where clicks are coming from across 3 different sites is impossible otherwise.

  8. Ads can be really profitable, it just takes time

  9. CigArest says:

Shannon, two things. first, since you are only using 2 ad blocks, I would suggest you ad a 468×60 blog at the end of the post, many people will read thru your post and at the end will click on the ads if they are relevant enough. Second, I would change the title color to match the rest of the links on your site, a lighter blue maybe.. and third (I know I said 2…) Why dont you use a links block matching the colors of your links by the categories?
    Regards

@CigArest, the are few debates about blend your ad in your blog or make your ad standout… both methods have pros and cons.. maybe a few test for Shannon to try which one is better.

Eventhough my blog didnt focus on specific niche, but somehow I got a quite a good income from adsense. Still, i dont really depend on adsense to make money

  26. Car Bulbs says:

I used to have AdSense on my website and did quite well with it. If the only way you make money is via AdSense then it can be rewarding to have good content. It gets visitors and then a % will click on your ads. If you can traffic for free then earn from them its great.

However my main goal is to sell my car bulbs and headlight bulbs so I don’t wish to send my visitors off to a competitor site.

I use AdWords to get visitors onto my site, so it is a bit daft paying to get them on the site then sending them away again!

    Good luck with it.

    How I hated AdSense…
