Best Way to Check Your Backlinks?

I have seen it so many times and I am sure I shall see it again throughout the net on forums and blogs alike. The question of how to check your backlinks and what is the best way to check your backlinks is asked all too often. I finally have had enough and am going to spill the beans on the BEST method to check your websites backlinks.

Before I show you step by step how to go about it the right way, why would you want to check backlinks at all? That’s a great question and the answer is a key to your SEO success.

As Seo’s we should want to check our backlinks as it shows us who is linking to us. When we look at the backlinks we can see exactly what the search engines see. If we see 100’s of links pointing to our site but they are all coming from the same domain then we know that link is a bit more spammy to the search engines then if we only have 1-5 links coming that domain.

We can also see on average how many total backlinks we have, this is also important as we can check our competitions backlinks the same way. Once we know what backlinks they have we can contact the same websites and ask for a link as well.

My motto is, if I can get the same backlinks as my competition and just a few more I can beat them out!

Ok so it’s a bit childish, but that doesn’t matter, the fact of the matter is that backlinks are the sole reason to higher rankings. What those backlinks do while pointing to your site, how many point are they of good quality? All these questions can be checked by skimming through your backlinks.

So that raises the question, what is the best way to check my backlinks? This question puzzled me for some time until I finally sat down and tried every way I had ever heard and came up with the best solution. To check your backlinks all you have to do is visit Yahoo.com. Once your at Yahoo you can type in the search box the following string. Be sure to replace yourdomain.com with the domain in which you want to check the backlinks.

Link:www.yourdomain.com

This string brings up all the backlinks you have throughout the net, yahoo is the best tool to use because they don’t x out backlinks for any reason. They show everyone so you can control what happens next.

One important thing to know about checking backlinks in Google is that they x out a lot of your backlinks. I am not sure why they do this as they know Yahoo shows them all. Unless they are just trying to trick beginners in the seo field to thinking they don’t have many backlinks and then those Newbs go and buy a ton of backlinks that are easy for google to spot? It wouldn’t even be half bad if they showed only your very best backlinks, but they even x out some of your strongest ones.

So the moral of the story is, if you want to check all your backlinks and not google’s half witted attempt use yahoo to do it. I would even go so far as to say that you don’t know how many backlinks or the quality of the backlinks you do have until you try out this method for checking your backlinks.
