Last year I made a post called building backlinks for 2008 which was a helpful post to most.
I wanted to revisit that post and update it for the new year because some new ways to build backlinks are now possible. Please understand that this is not a full-proof guide and I am not guaranteeing you that all these techniques are legit nor liked by the search engines BUT they do work for getting better rankings.
Buying Words – There are new services out their such as InLinks where you can buy links within blog posts in related blogs to your niche. This is risky as is all link buying but I have seen and heard a lot of hype about how wonderfully this works so I have to list it!

Blog Commenting – Last year I also wrote a post on this but as a brief overview you can simply comment on do-follow comment blogs to gain better rankings. It takes a lot of them though so be ready for some work ahead!
Directory Submissions – Even though this is a 1999 way to build links it still works because Google trusts in the directories! If you want to guarantee a better ranking then spend some cash on good quality directories such as the yahoo directory or another big one like www.botw.org. If you want to know which directories are good to submit to then checkout this post I made on the topic!
3 Way Link Trades – This method has been around for a while and its pretty much impossible for google and the other engines to trace so let it work its magic! You can read how to do a 3 way link trade here if you do not already know how!
Social Bookmarks – Social bookmarks are still big but are being taken over, get in on them now to get that extra link-juice before its to late! If you don’t know whats taking over social bookmarks then checkout our Social Media section, it explains it all!
Link Baiting – This technique has been around since the birth of the first search engine, the funny thing is it’s not really all that hard to do. Checkout the end of this post if you want to understand link baiting a little better.
With that said guys…
If you can follow all of those techniques and apply them to your blogs you should have no trouble taking over virtually any term you want. It really boils down to the time and effort you put into making it happen for yourself! I have spent a whole year working on building links organically and its no easy task but I still would rather do that then buy links myself and get nailed by google for doing so when it can be avoided!

Hello, My name is Shannon and I have been making money online for the last several years. I am dedicated to showing everyone I can how to replicate my blogging success. I work very hard and I have been featured on some of the biggest blogs on the net, you can

Hey, as always your link is very informative and consice. Thanks for the info will try it out soon and will update you about it..
February 8th, 2009 at 9:52 am
I still think directory submissions are a waste of money/time and will do hardly anything to your rankings.
February 8th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
This is cool
Never heard about link baiting & 3 Way Link Trades before, but will try it out now. Thanks for the info Shannon.
Also i would like to know if there is any danger in using InLinks ? i mean i don’t think google likes it !
February 8th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Currently I’m focusing on building backlink from article directories and 3 ways link exchange. Hope get the lucky
February 8th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
Well said Link building is the hardest SEO task and reciprocal linking is losing its appeal fast if not having already done so
I agree with Directories being useless
February 8th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Great tips as always. I don’t think Google puts much emphasis on directories anymore, even the paid ones such as Yahoo.
Another great way to build backlinks is to utilize the free blogging services. Use your keywords within your posts and link to your main blog or website. This can have a huge impact on the rankings of your site for those keywords.
Thanks again,

I’ve been talking to quite a few folks about this so I’ll toss it out there.. I did a post not long ago on “what is the purpose of your blog” http://tinyurl.com/bx64lq
To me, if we “broaden” our blogs, we have more to talk about, that gives us more opportunities to link from different blogs etc etc.. (not just blogs on internet marketing) That gives us a broader spectrum to get inbound links…
Thoughts?

Hiya,
Fantastic list there – just wondering what the best forms of link bait are for you – i.e. text, video or sound?

[...] Building Backlinks For 2009 is an article from IBB and Shannon pretty much nailed the backlink building on the spot. Especially when PR is a lot harder to attain than in the past and with more and more bloggers popping up from here and there, it never hurts to have some massive backlink and authority in the blogosphere. Speaking of authority… [...]

This is the article that I want. This article is very good. This article is very useful for me. Thanks
February 9th, 2009 at 11:04 am
Backlinks are very useful in order to increase the traffic on your post.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Good summary; of course there are lot’s more ways to get links, eg. Pumper sites. The three way link works now, but Google should be able to detect it in the future.
February 9th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
Why is buying words risky?
February 9th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
@Rizzo Tees, Hey Rizzo!
Well its risky because google doesnt want us SEO people altering the search index. So by buying words we can do that therefor they dont like it
February 9th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
@Ryan, Some can be a waste Ryan! But I have a lost of about 30 that seem to help with a new site I create
Could just be im lucky I guess!
February 9th, 2009 at 9:18 pm

I dont really experience the power of directories submission so far, so for me i dont think this is my way to build backline
February 11th, 2009 at 12:00 am
There are plenty more ways to build backlinks besides the ones you have mentioned, for example, forums is a good one too. But I’m not going to drop links for self-promotion, don’t worry.
But backlinks and keyword is essential, that’s all I can say!

February 13th, 2009 at 3:16 am
These are all great ways to build back links, it takes hard work and some time but eventually it will pay off.
February 13th, 2009 at 3:27 am
Worthwhile post! You’ve just cited the most powerful ways to build backlinks. Thanks
February 17th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Great post. Summaries and explains all the methods well. I am interested in learning more about these buying links in posts, I have heard they help alot.
February 17th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
I’ll follow the links and do what they tell to expand my blog campaign in SERP thank you
February 18th, 2009 at 3:11 am
I think the real complaint google had with paid links was popular sites (say a high-pagerank construction equipment site) selling completely irrelevant links (gambling). The problem was that there was an un-natural linking pattern – what on earth does construction equipment have to do with gambling? Links from pages that are relevant to the site being linked to should be good.
Backlinks are essential to good search engine rankings. (article directories, forum posts (in your signature only) and other online site profile opportunities to drop a link to your page are some of the other good possibilities.)
February 19th, 2009 at 12:00 am
Hi! Thanks for the informative post and you really have some good ideas here. Keep it up
February 20th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Not sure what you meant by the first one “InLink”? Is that the same thing as buying links? But I guess the other ones are pretty much the standards. thanks for sharing..
February 21st, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Not sure about directory submissions myself … but if it works for you, the fair play to you!
Social bookmarking can still help to get you indexed quickly and will pass some juice too.
February 22nd, 2009 at 11:52 am
Is directory submission method dead yet?
March 7th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
I love link baiting but the bad thing is i find it too difficult to do.People talk about squidoo or hubpages but i dont have so much patience. So i resort to article submissions and blog commenting.
March 7th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
@Hosting, yes it definitely has lost importance.
March 7th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
@Shannon Lilly, yes ofcourse .They do help a new blog but Google has just reduced the importance factor given out to these directories.
March 15th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Very good tips. I’m going to try a few of them for my blog. Thank you.
March 18th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
On my website I’ll start a fun called “What fish you are?” where people will answer a few questions and based on the answers they’ll be shown a fish which characterises them the most. Haha, I am hoping to get a few links this way. I just need the paintings firstly…
March 23rd, 2009 at 6:53 am
thanks for these two ways 3 Way Link Trades and Link Baiting. i am new to this service and not even heard before, even in digitalpoint. i want to try them out. my favorite ways to build likes are
1. blog commenting
2. forum posting
3. article submission
4. directory submission
March 23rd, 2009 at 8:59 pm
I think the most effective and cheapest one is do a blog commenting because there are a lot a blog with good article to make me commenting for the great article. As long as dong do a spam comment because it just make everyone dont like it.
March 29th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
great list again! i really into that linkbaiting idea. Its result is great.
March 30th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
must read tips all of these tips are incredible. I have use some technic for build link such as social bookmarking, directory submitting. but I think its good if can list on big website which have to pay.

April 6th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
I know social bookmarking like backlinks are hot now, I’m concerned they’re going to drop off the radar soon. I know getting to the front page of digg shows importance, but you’re link will be passed around like viral hot cakes and you’ll get links that way
April 11th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Now a days link building is one of the best way to increase your traffic and PR.
April 14th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
All great ideas for link building.
April 14th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
do you think 2 way link building is still a good idea or a waste of time?
April 17th, 2009 at 6:21 am
I have read your blog it’s very useful to everyone and we cand get back link by social bookmark and Blog comment
April 17th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
I think your post for link building is always informative. And this time it repeat our nature.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
@Hosting, If you pick the right directories it will still work for you. It is certainly a waste of time to submit to a directory if its category pages runs deep and if your links is listed on page 10 or 20 or so.
You need to select directories that give you dofollow and non redirect links. The directory must have editorial values. That is, not accepting every site that is submitted. The editor must review the site before accepting. It will add value to the submission if the directory writes its own descriptions.
April 20th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Thanks for a nice and informative site. Somehow I was drawn to reading the post and I enjoyed a lot. Have a nice day!
April 24th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
i would add commenting on forums to the list also (very similar to blog commenting)
May 6th, 2009 at 11:07 am
All these tips are very useful but why you didn’t include forum posting in this.
May 7th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
Yes, forum posting is also an important method of link building. With dofollow blog using an anchor text one can gain quality backlinks to the site.
May 9th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Directory submission seems to be loosing it’s importance, it will be better to focus on other methods of link building and it very seriously.
May 9th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
how about 1 way link?
may i get it free?
May 18th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
All very good tips. I’m going to try a few of them for my blog. Thank you.

Great list of backlink strategies for 2009, while directories are not as powerful as they once were, I still think you can get some link juice from submitting to directories.
May 27th, 2009 at 4:32 am
Never heard about link baiting & 3 Way Link Trades before, but will try it out now. Thanks for the info Shannon.

I don’t know if Backlink is the correct term but could someone please tell me how to create a code to add to my blog?
June 20th, 2009 at 10:52 am
Still i am not pretty much sure about 3 way linking. could you explain it in a proper way to me.
June 22nd, 2009 at 5:46 am
@Camera, If you want to achieve “higher rankings” in the search engines and gain traffic then i suggest you “not spam blogs” and Pay for a Review or you can use Free/Paid web directories that will review your site if your site is “worthy” off being listed in the first place.

i have recently made a website, i need traffic. i read that backlinks are very important and i believe it because google ranking depend on backlinks. Now, how do i build them? any proffesional answers?
August 1st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Does social bookmarking really work? I mean many of these sites are no follow now
August 2nd, 2009 at 2:12 am
The blog posting should be a combo of no-follow and follow so it seems more organic to google IMHO. Good info.
August 5th, 2009 at 5:45 am
Can someone help find a genuine way to build backlinks to my site?tell me good succession….

Social bookmarking isn’t as effective as it was a year ago but still helps kick start a new site.
August 14th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
Excellent link building tips. I really try to focus on using a variety of link building techniques so you don’t end up with a large number of links specific to one method. For example, a site with 1000 links form forum postings and no other inbound links seems a little suspicious?
I try to make my efforts as organic and natural as possible. Just my .02 cents worth.

Why UGG Boot is So Popular?
Ugg boots, also spelled ugh boots and ug boots, are a style of sheepskin boot, with wool as the inner lining and a tanned outer surface worn by both men and women. Ugg boots often have a synthetic sole, although this is not universal. Uggs are popular with the teenage set, worn by girls with mini skirts, leggings, and with jeans tucked into the boots. UGGS Boots are also popular with boys, wearing jeans or tracksuit bottoms inside them most commonly.
UGG UK Sale, In Australia and New Zealand, sheepskin boots have long been popular with people in rural occupations, such as sheep shearers, who have ready access to the raw materials,. Their popularity increased as a result of World War I and World War II, when they were popular with aviators, because of their need to keep warm in non-pressurized planes at high altitudes. An exhibit of a WWI aviator’s outfit in the Canadian War Museum cites the term "fug" boots. UGG Cardy, Ugg Boots have also been popular with surfers and competitive swimmers since at least the 1960s, for keeping warm while out of the water. The terms ugg boots, ugh boots and ug boots have been used as generic terms for sheepskin boots in Australia since 1950s and 1960s, when they first appeared in advertising and other publications.
The natural properties of sheepskin results in thermostatic benefits. Thick fleecy fibres on the inner part of the boots allows air to circulate and keep the feet at body temperature. Synthetic and faux fur boots do not have these properties and sheepskin boots are highly prized for their effectiveness. Ugg boots are designed to be worn without socks in order to maximize the benefits of sheepskin.
What’s more, This Year’s Hottest UGG Boots Style–UGG Bailey Button Boots, is already starting to sell well. UGG UK Sale, it is not a matter of if this style sells out, but how quickly. Every year people procrastinate and then they can’t find the Ugg Boots they want. So, Shop early for the best selection.

Why it was Fashion Shoes celebrated on December 25th is another question. No date for the birth of Jesus can be found in the New Testament, which is concerned more with the question “Who is Jesus?” than the Tiffany Jewelrydate of his birth. Early Christian speculation about his birth date was influenced by the symbolism of the changing seasons, then popular in religious thought, which paid careful attention Electronics Sale to the equinoxes and solstices of the sun. Christian scholars speculated that Jesus was conceived at the spring equinox (March 25th) and therefore was born on December 25th, the date of the winter solstice. buy handbags
