When it comes to keeping your files safe from virus’s, crashes and the worm there are not many choices on the net today. However a player that has a seemingly impeccable record has recently surfaced more and more. Carbonite is making great gains as a backup service provider but is it really necessary to pay them to do this for you? Granted the yearly fee is only $54.95 but its still more money going out and before I do that I want to know what you all think.

The decsion is really up-to you if you think its worth it but in my own opinion it can’t possibly be worth paying a backup service to do what I can do myself on an external hard drive every week…
That brings the question, what do you think? Is a online backup service worth it? Give me your thoughts and opinions and lets discover the majority vote! Once I have the majority vote I can decide better whether its worth it for me or not.
I do want to mention the fact that Carbonitehas won the Cnet Webware top 100 award for 2009. Its a great honor and I believe with a little more time Carbonitecould turn into a bigger service that more people use. I think before it can truly become big the Internet speeds globally will need to get quicker for the cheaper price. Here is a short snippet of what Cnet had to say about Carbonite!
Carbonite is an online storage provider that specializes in backup. Users install a small piece of software on their machine, which automatically syncs any new or changed files over a secured connection. In case of an emergency, you can simply use the software to get everything back, and because it’s not localized to where your machine is, you can get that backup from wherever you have a connection.
Carbonite isn’t a free service, but there’s no limit on the size of your computer’s backup, something which makes it more attractive as the speed of home Internet connections continues to rise.
I think that pretty much says all that needs to be said don’t you think?

I say, that if you can save money by doing something yourself that you should do it. You can actually make the weekly back up on your external automatic, so you don’t really need to do it yourself.

And I disagree 120% to this. Instead you must look at whether or not you’re able to spend your time in a more profitable way. It is quite simple really.
If you’re able to make more money doing your business than it’ll cost you to spend the time doing backup, then by all means have someone else do it.
Online business (well any business) is about outsourcing and not having to do stuff yourself. If you don’t learn to take yourself out of the equation then you have just created another JOB for yourself.

@sulumits retsambew, We have about 50 employees, and about 100 total computers, including some enterprise level servers with large storage capacities. Most workstations are Windows based, most servers are Linux or BSD based. Our network is built on a stack of Cisco 10/100 switches. I would imagine the storage required for the backup would be between 500GB to 1000GB. I don’t imagine doing full backups daily, but at least every week. Are there standalone solutions that can be managed remotely? I would like something that I can plug into the network, without having to build a computer system to house it.

Online storage is not worth paying for. It would be if it was the only option, but there are free alternatives. Such as,
Wuala gives you up to 100 GB for free per computer. If you have, for example, 3 computers running Wuala and they are online 24/7, that’s up to 300 GB online storage. I am sitting at 90 GB myself right now with just one computer.
Still a beta, but i have tried every single one of the free online storage services out there and this one is by far the best.
The only other one i would recommend is Syncplicity. I initially used this for the ability to sync multiple computers, but nobody seems to have gotten this right yet so now i just use it as a secondary backup for my most important documents and such.
Mozy and Idrive are probably also good for strictly backup, but they don’t allow you to use your files from a web interface like the above ones do. To me, online backup that doesn’t allow me to directly access my data is useless.
Other than that, the rest are worthless. Spideroak sometimes misses entire folders, Sugarsync is buggy, they all have some sort of issue that makes them unusable for safe storage.

As i know carbonite backs up everything in your Documents and Settings folder (called Users in Windows Vista), including documents, photos, email and data files from applications, such as Quicken, Money, etc. Once a subscription is purchased, music is also added to the list. It uses a combination of encryption techniques, similar to those used by banks, to safeguard your data. The best thing about it is that There are no limits on backup storage capacity.

Hard drives aren’t free either and if you’re going to do off site storage (which you should), the time you spend schlepping drives around and remembering to do it is worth something.
This isn’t a beta, you know how many betas I’ve backed up with that are now gone?
You’re only really backing up data, not programs or operating systems.
Since you can’t backup network or mapped drives without paying more. I installed it on my wife’s desktop, then I schedule a backup from my laptop over the home network to a directory in the desktop.
My stuff is backed up, her stuff is backed up, and we don’t even have to think about it.
Use a free beta, use your own system of external drives, or don’t back up at all.
I’m glad I don’t have to deal with it anymore. I know it’s taken care of. period.
This is such a no brainer, I’m not sure why Shannon even had to ask. Use the free trial.

Online backup services have grown in popularity recently due to their ease of use, very high security, and relatively low cost. Some services even have an option that backs up your files automatically every day or so (you can set the time frame). The main downside to this service is that if your computer crashes, you need Internet access to restore your files.

Why UGG Boot is So Popular?
Ugg boots, also spelled ugh boots and ug boots, are a style of sheepskin boot, with wool as the inner lining and a tanned outer surface worn by both men and women. Ugg boots often have a synthetic sole, although this is not universal. Uggs are popular with the teenage set, worn by girls with mini skirts, leggings, and with jeans tucked into the boots. UGGS Boots are also popular with boys, wearing jeans or tracksuit bottoms inside them most commonly.
UGG UK Sale, In Australia and New Zealand, sheepskin boots have long been popular with people in rural occupations, such as sheep shearers, who have ready access to the raw materials,. Their popularity increased as a result of World War I and World War II, when they were popular with aviators, because of their need to keep warm in non-pressurized planes at high altitudes. An exhibit of a WWI aviator’s outfit in the Canadian War Museum cites the term "fug" boots. UGG Cardy, Ugg Boots have also been popular with surfers and competitive swimmers since at least the 1960s, for keeping warm while out of the water. The terms ugg boots, ugh boots and ug boots have been used as generic terms for sheepskin boots in Australia since 1950s and 1960s, when they first appeared in advertising and other publications.
The natural properties of sheepskin results in thermostatic benefits. Thick fleecy fibres on the inner part of the boots allows air to circulate and keep the feet at body temperature. Synthetic and faux fur boots do not have these properties and sheepskin boots are highly prized for their effectiveness. Ugg boots are designed to be worn without socks in order to maximize the benefits of sheepskin.
What’s more, This Year’s Hottest UGG Boots Style–UGG Bailey Button Boots, is already starting to sell well. UGG UK Sale, it is not a matter of if this style sells out, but how quickly. Every year people procrastinate and then they can’t find the Ugg Boots they want. So, Shop early for the best selection.
