When it comes to keeping your files safe from virus’s, crashes and the worm there are not many choices on the net today. However a player that has a seemingly impeccable record has recently surfaced more and more. Carbonite is making great gains as a backup service provider but is it really necessary to pay them to do this for you? Granted the yearly fee is only $54.95 but its still more money going out and before I do that I want to know what you all think.

The decsion is really up-to you if you think its worth it but in my own opinion it can’t possibly be worth paying a backup service to do what I can do myself on an external hard drive every week…
That brings the question, what do you think? Is a online backup service worth it? Give me your thoughts and opinions and lets discover the majority vote! Once I have the majority vote I can decide better whether its worth it for me or not.
I do want to mention the fact that Carbonitehas won the Cnet Webware top 100 award for 2009. Its a great honor and I believe with a little more time Carbonitecould turn into a bigger service that more people use. I think before it can truly become big the Internet speeds globally will need to get quicker for the cheaper price. Here is a short snippet of what Cnet had to say about Carbonite!
Carbonite is an online storage provider that specializes in backup. Users install a small piece of software on their machine, which automatically syncs any new or changed files over a secured connection. In case of an emergency, you can simply use the software to get everything back, and because it’s not localized to where your machine is, you can get that backup from wherever you have a connection.
Carbonite isn’t a free service, but there’s no limit on the size of your computer’s backup, something which makes it more attractive as the speed of home Internet connections continues to rise.
I think that pretty much says all that needs to be said don’t you think?

I say, that if you can save money by doing something yourself that you should do it. You can actually make the weekly back up on your external automatic, so you don’t really need to do it yourself.
And I disagree 120% to this. Instead you must look at whether or not you’re able to spend your time in a more profitable way. It is quite simple really.
If you’re able to make more money doing your business than it’ll cost you to spend the time doing backup, then by all means have someone else do it.
Online business (well any business) is about outsourcing and not having to do stuff yourself. If you don’t learn to take yourself out of the equation then you have just created another JOB for yourself.
Ya its true Carbonite is becoming a backup service provider but little costly. I have read many article related to it online..
@Healthier Licorice, Have you considered how much of your life is on your computer? Photos, emails, music, financial records, documents, and so much more. How would you feel if you woke up tomorrow and everything was gone so i think its not so much costly.
@Healthier Licorice, a little money is very chip cost for you valuable data in your PC. so don’t mind it. in future it will be much chipper
Its Historic Fail coz we have lot of examples in past
@sulumits retsambew, We have about 50 employees, and about 100 total computers, including some enterprise level servers with large storage capacities. Most workstations are Windows based, most servers are Linux or BSD based. Our network is built on a stack of Cisco 10/100 switches. I would imagine the storage required for the backup would be between 500GB to 1000GB. I don’t imagine doing full backups daily, but at least every week. Are there standalone solutions that can be managed remotely? I would like something that I can plug into the network, without having to build a computer system to house it.
@Pat Testers,
Great think by you, Pat Testers.
@sulumits retsambew,
have you tested it? Of just a prediction?
Carbonite Backup gives you control over your data on devices you manage, placing security and ease of accessibility in your hands. With Carbonite Backup, you can be confident important data is secure and available when you need it.
@Pat Testers, This sounds pretty cool.
@Earn Money Writing, you are right and thanks for comment to this post. keep it up you will be benefited here because its very nice and informative site so keep read its post.
@absco sheds, Thanks. Will do!
@absco sheds, Thanks absco, thanks for comment on my comment.
This replicator is a great program for doing just that. I use it to back up of my your data on devices you manage all work just before I leave work every day.
@facelift, We have two Windows XP SP2 computers. One has a 145 GB hard drive with about 52 GB used, and the other has a 111 GB hard drive with about 57 GB used. We need a complete backup solution that will allow us to recover 100% of a hard drive if there was a total failure, and also give us the ability to restore individual data files if necessary. What does everybody recommend?
@Pat Testers, You can use some backup tool software & hardware.
Carbonite really has served as an impeccable back up solution for keeping your files safely.
@web outsourcing,
I agree. Definitely one of the greatest tools.
This sounds pretty cool. I may have to check it out.
So this will backup your computer and websites?
@Paul,
I believe so. Yes, it can.
@Free Credit Report Without A Credit Card, cool thanks.
I think you are asked to pay to much for what it is worth. It is not complicated to back up your own computer on an external.
@Online Colleges, It is really cheap for one year.
@Online Colleges,
The price is fair with the quality they have.
Online storage is not worth paying for. It would be if it was the only option, but there are free alternatives. Such as,
Wuala gives you up to 100 GB for free per computer. If you have, for example, 3 computers running Wuala and they are online 24/7, that’s up to 300 GB online storage. I am sitting at 90 GB myself right now with just one computer.
Still a beta, but i have tried every single one of the free online storage services out there and this one is by far the best.
The only other one i would recommend is Syncplicity. I initially used this for the ability to sync multiple computers, but nobody seems to have gotten this right yet so now i just use it as a secondary backup for my most important documents and such.
Mozy and Idrive are probably also good for strictly backup, but they don’t allow you to use your files from a web interface like the above ones do. To me, online backup that doesn’t allow me to directly access my data is useless.
Other than that, the rest are worthless. Spideroak sometimes misses entire folders, Sugarsync is buggy, they all have some sort of issue that makes them unusable for safe storage.
@Ibian, This sounds pretty cool and genric.
@Ibian,
Thanks for your feedback and useful input.
As i know carbonite backs up everything in your Documents and Settings folder (called Users in Windows Vista), including documents, photos, email and data files from applications, such as Quicken, Money, etc. Once a subscription is purchased, music is also added to the list. It uses a combination of encryption techniques, similar to those used by banks, to safeguard your data. The best thing about it is that There are no limits on backup storage capacity.
@skin surgery,
Wow, so no limits. It can be used by many users?
I think its the best way to keep our data safe.Carbonite
provide the online data backup service and that type of service essential for every enterprise..
With the advent of inexpensive online data storage options, it is now possible to archive our most crucial data online. This option potentially protects we from theft and it is an off site option so it protects we from fire.
This sounds pretty cool. I think its the best way to keep our data safe.
@wii games,
What is does is backing up, not protecting or safeguarding data.
Superb solution to backup your data. And i think it will definitely gonna popular in all enterprises.Online data backup is the best solution in these days..
@Jonali lycopene from tomatoes, you are right thinking about it. Any thing could happened to your PC its very important to keep a back up for it.
@absco sheds,
I agree with you. Any thing could happened anytime, perhaps on the next minute. Thus remember to back up your file or anything else in an external hard disk, and using antivirus software to protect your pc.
Regards,
Lee
@Make Money Doing Online Surveys, Thanks for appreciate my view. yes it always beneficial to put your data some where else.
You would probably need a very good internet connection for it to work well, that is if you have alot of data. I don’t know what kinda it is… but If you buy the right kind of hard-drive I am pretty sure the results can be achieved locally, which is what I would go with.
Till then,
Jean
@used tires,
Very well said Jean. I do think the same. This gives you a lot of control on your own file.
Hard drives aren’t free either and if you’re going to do off site storage (which you should), the time you spend schlepping drives around and remembering to do it is worth something.
This isn’t a beta, you know how many betas I’ve backed up with that are now gone?
You’re only really backing up data, not programs or operating systems.
Since you can’t backup network or mapped drives without paying more. I installed it on my wife’s desktop, then I schedule a backup from my laptop over the home network to a directory in the desktop.
My stuff is backed up, her stuff is backed up, and we don’t even have to think about it.
Use a free beta, use your own system of external drives, or don’t back up at all.
I’m glad I don’t have to deal with it anymore. I know it’s taken care of. period.
This is such a no brainer, I’m not sure why Shannon even had to ask. Use the free trial.
All the info that writer mentioned above are really nice. Because off late data recovery is the main headache for the companies. And it will definitely help them..
@Austin No win no fee,
I agree with your statement Sir!
Carbonite Backups cares about the security of our computer information. Statistics show that 43% of computer users lose valuable files from their computers every single year. It is important to back up important data, pictures and financial information so that loss, theft or damage to the hard drive doesn’t wipe it all out.
Its very informative and useful for all of us. I know its some little costly but don’t mind it because it very helpful. I had read many article about it.
@absco sheds, the cost vs. benefit is pretty good.
@Paul, As we all know that we must have mind it. If don’t we will loose.
@absco sheds,
Prevention is better than cure.
Preventing a certain thing can cost much, but curing, can cost you a lot.
@Free Credit Report Without A Credit Card, It absolutely true. If we don’t we will pay for this.
Its secured for computer information. This is useful for taking backup from your computer which may be loss anytime that users are very well aware of that.
@kitchen taps, good point
I don’t know if this really works. I’ve read bad reviews though, like slow recovery processes, selective back up function, and breaks down frequently. It’s up to you if you’d try.
I am absolutely dying! Leafs fail yet again in their attempt at the playoffs and the Blue Jays are going to be horrible again this year because Josh Towers is struggling again (“next season” is a common phrase to excuse inept proformances). The Raptors are the only good thing but due to their bad historic record (.400- since they started) I don’t have anything to cheer . Toronto FC is messed and their first boringgame nearly made me drift into eternal sleep.
Seems cool, and the price is affordable, I think it’s worth to try. Anyone of you has experience with Carbonite?
Regards,
Lee
@Make Money Doing Online Surveys, Haven’t tried it yet.
Online backup services have grown in popularity recently due to their ease of use, very high security, and relatively low cost. Some services even have an option that backs up your files automatically every day or so (you can set the time frame). The main downside to this service is that if your computer crashes, you need Internet access to restore your files.
@Toronto Personal Injury,
Thanks for the info.
Online institutions are increasing day by day…they are even cheap and are of good quality.
@healthy lifestyle, Thanks for linking here it really helps my friend.
I feel its lovely to use instead of getting into more trouble. Good review mate Keep sharing top quality stuff.
Good to use the back up things maintaining the backups on different places helps a lot.
@Blackberry Accessories,
Putting your eggs in different basket! Nice tip!
Definitely a worth-trying service. Hopefully, they can add more feature.
@Simon Wilby,
You are right there buddy.
I don’t know man, $60 is not that little (even if it’s only per year) and you can surely find cheaper backup solutions (or even do it manualy).
@Stancje,
Correct, you can even backup your whole system manually. Although it can take time.
@Stancje,
It might takes you some times to backup your whole system manually. $60 a year can save lots of your time, but it’s up to you.
Regards,
Lee
I agree with you. It is too difficult to protect your data from virus & crushes, i think carbonite is comes as gift to protect your data from all these problems. But it is really bad feeling that you have to pay for this.
@Camper Trailers Brisbane,
Nothing is free nowadays.
This is a great post and idea.
Great resource and a great backup solution.
Definitely a sure way to back up your system.
For how much time does the carbonite provides backup?
Quite interesting post and you gave knowledge in detail.
@Alfred, Good question. I wonder the same.
Well, it says $55.00 per year, so I guess that’s how long it provides the backups. I think it is nice if it takes the work out of doing it your self and remembering to do so. Also not having to use a external HDD or anything is kind of nice.
Though I don’t think I would spend that much money to backup my files. (even if it is kind of cheap!
)
@Rapidshare Downloads, I am sure they keep backups longer but you have to renew the subscription to have access again.
@Rapidshare Downloads,
We do have our own choice.
Carbonite is somewhat new to me. It’s another virus protector like McAfee and Norton, but only exclusive to Mac, and its definitely high recommended for all Mac users, to help them stay protected against deadly computer virus like the new Conficker, Trojan Horse and may more.
I have been a long time customer of carbonite & till now i am satisfied with it because if you are having your business very important such that you can not afford it to lose all the data so i will say we should have a data backup service like the carbonite one!
good find…
Very innovative! thanks for sharing the tips which will prove to be very helpful in future as well
Thanks for your solutions
Online back-ups are good in a way that you’ll feel secure you won’t lose important files as you can easily retrieve these files when you need it.
Carbonite the backup solution, i am hearing it for the first time.I have never heard about it much, but will definitely see to get more from somewhere.
@Goji Berry Juice, Once again read this post very carefully you will find every thing. visit its given links these are also good sources.
Definitely historic fail.
@Max, Haha, how come sir?
great resource and thanks for sharing the idea.
definitely checking this out, thanks for the info.
I have saved you in bookmarks was in a hurry so i could not understand it. Can you explain it to me in a simple way?
@custom cake toppers, I think you will done your job by bookmarking this because this blog is really fantastic blog.
I think is one of the best and cheaper application to keep your files safe!
@increase traffic, I agree with you so plz got it

@earn money writing, Yes I had tried it. Its best and reliable. You can trust it.
