Hair Cut Your Blog

Hair Cut Your Blog

Does your blog need a little trim? If you have been blogging for any amount of time you can relate to the fact that things tend to become a bit messy and cluttered. Luckily for us there are a couple of easy steps we can take to trim up our blog!

As most of you can probably tell (can you?) the picture above is my new shaved head! I had a big thread on DP all about it, that thread got some decent replies and is still going today! Feel free to comment on my new hairdo!

Re-Categorize For My Blog?

So you may be asking yourself, what are some things I can do to get my blog more organized and get a small blog haircut going down? The main thing to remember when giving your blog a small trim is to get things categorized correctly. For some reason a lot of bloggers seem to think that they should not create new categories on their blogs especially the bloggers who have been blogging for over a year. All I can say to that is why? Who told you that let me know so I can set them straight! If you have an aged blog adding more categories will only add more power to your overall blog. Don’t be shy and create as many categories as possible, the search engines do not mind at all!

Your visitors on the other hand will so use as many as you need but don’t use more then is needed as then your visitors my be confused. I have about 10-15 categories and I may even create more.

Additionally, don’t be afraid to move the posts you have already into more appropriate categories once you create them. The URLS will more then likely not be affected and no broken links should occur. If they do just ensure you have the proper 301 redirects setup Sitewide so it takes them back to the homepage. That actually brings me to my next blog haircut tip!

301 Redirect Broken URLS

When it comes to moving posts around you sometimes will run into problems where you will see broken links and missing posts altogether, for this reason alone you should learn how to setup a proper 301 redirect for on your blog so that it takes them back to the homepage correctly. Broken URL links are terrible not only for seo but they also annoy every visitor that receives one, setup your 301 redirects the right way ASAP!

I know this is only two tips, but be thankful that I gave them to you! These two tips alone will take you time to perform on your own blog; I believe your visitors will be thankful that you took the time though!

Feel free to comment below and tell us other ways you cut and trim up your blog!

Category’s are a such a great thing. They help make blogs so much easier and more informative.

“Haircuts” for blogs are very useful! Specially like the 301 redirect idea. It is one that I often forget to sort out.
