What to Look For When Submitting To Directories!
Have you ever wondered what to look for when submitting to directories? If you’ve been doing SEO for any amount of time you probably know that directory submissions are a great way to build your authority. However a lot of directories are misleading and they’re really not that powerful and they won’t help your rankings very much!
Today we’re going to address this issue and show you what you need to look for when submitting to a directory, these tips should help you and we hope you’re rakings start improving!
The first step
- When you first enter into a directory the first thing you should look for is a correctly SEO’d directory, any really good ones will have a proper title tag, proper description and decent category selection for your website. If the directory does not have these three things leave immediately!
- If the directory has these three things it’s time to move on to the next step to see if the directory is worth submitting to, although we do not endorse using page rank as a guide, we do believe it’s valuable in the sense that if a page has page rank it will pass link juice to you. A directory should have inner page rank on it, at least one subdirectory if not many should have a valid pr.
- If it doesn’t have at least one subdirectory with a page rank it’s probably really new and not worth submitting to at this time. But if it does have inner page rank then more than likely you will get some link juice from the site and your website should be listed in this directory.
- Another thing to look for when listing your website in a directory is to check if it is paid or a free directory. Free directories are great but they don’t usually pass much link value to you, we know the paid directories can get expensive but for the time that your going to take to submit to a bunch of free directories one paid directory could do all the leg work for you. Since we believe this to be the case we do not endorse going to free directories because number one it probably does not have much link juice and number two it probably has a lot of websites in it already which are pulling all of the link juice that that directory has.
So basically the main thing to keep in mind is that most free directories do not pass much link juice to you, save your time and leg work, spend a little money and get in a paid seo directory that is going to pass some serious link value to you!

I suppose it’s possible to make up for quality by emphasizing quantity .. but who would want to do that many submissions? You’re right … go for quality directories.

I submitted to 2 free directories and they helped my page rank a TON! But they were nicely coded and nicely worded.

well, I don’t agree with your paid-versus free submissions
we’re a professional service, which means first of all; we submit to better directories then you, we have spends months and month of hard work checking thousands and thousands of directories. now, we can submit to 500 top-directories for just $100 … how many paid links are you going to get for $100?

I would not recommend paying to get your site listed in directories. I can think of 1000 better ways to spend one’s ad budget to drive traffic to their web site, then to waste their money paying for backlinks win there are many ways to get quality high pr backlinks for free.

I have outsourced directory submission to a group and have seen some very good results with submission to free directories. One thing about submitting to low or no page rank directories is that you have to realize they may grow into greater pagerank in the future. Many of these may become paid directories in the future.
I haven’t tried paid directories (yet), but may experiment with one or two and see what kind of results I see.

well, the issue with paid directories is not whether or not it’s good on itself; there are just many other-better option out there to get links for much less money; also; in the past google did punish the paid directories very severely … in other words; you actually risk to lose all of your money … that’s why; if you do go for paid dirs; only the few top-paid-dirs, or the very cheap ones … that’s my take on it … ow, almost forgot: niche directories, those are usually the only ones worth the money they ask.

directory submission has been very effective for our websites. we target 100 directories per week (knowing the slow approval process and rejection rates)

Ive submitted some of my sites to directories in the past, but nowadays i dont think its worth my while. Since google no longer weights these links for SEO purposes. Great post however!

Some say directories are obsolete and ineffective. But based on my experience, they’re links are still counted, so I think it still have some weigh on search results.
