Today I recieved a very interesting email. Here it the exact email copied and pasted to here:
Hey,
I noticed your forum is a bit dead, no offence, but it dosen’t seem that people want to sign up and post. Check out http://www.speedyposts.comand maybe we can turn your forum intothe biggest online community you have ever dreamed of!
Regards, When I see this all I can think is what would advertisers think if I paid them for posts? Now don’t get me wrong when first starting up a forum paid posting is really the only way to go until things start chugging along by themselves.
First of all this person sending me an email about there posting service was really a bad choice on there part, my forum has more activity per day then the biggest posting package they offer…
I want to know your thoughts about this, if you were going to advertise on my forum not knowing that I had paid for tons of posts on it what would you think?
In my opinion you would not be happy with the CTR% and that’s the main reason I don’t participate in programs like these. What about you? Do you stoop to such things just to make a quick buck that won’t last?

Well, prior to doing any advertising on forums, I make sure that I know that forum pretty well. This is either through the undeniable amount of great reputation that the forum may have or simply through participating in the community and seeing the overall quality of the forum.
To your question, I wouldn’t advertise on a forum where its admins are paying for posts. I’ve unfortunately advertised in a few without knowing at first and realized that those just don’t convert.

Well, i think that it might be a quick scam; but the reality is that for you to have a successful forum you need to pay people to post in the beginning. Think about it, if you visit a forum and you see that it only has 10 topics with 2 or 3 replies each, you most probably will master the “x” button!

I agree there is a reason the admins are paying for posts to get it filled so that they will be able to market the forum much better

Well I don’t think that they even checked out your Forum before sending you an email like this and I think they are only Interesting in selling no matter if they are lieing to their Costumers.

My opinion is such that if the forum is good enough, does it need to pay for posts? and to answer your question, No I wouldn’t spend a dime on forum that pays for posting… A forum with natural traffic is far better than an artificial one if you ask me…

I could see juicing a new forum for a couple of weeks pre-launch in order to build the conversations.
But no way in heck would I be monetizing at that point … by the time you’re selling advertising, your forum should be self-powered.

If I didn’t know you paid for the posting I wouldn’t think anything of it.

It’s a heaven for posters but hell for advertisers and that’s my take on paid forum…

I never thought of that before. I have hired posters before, but only in the early days of a forum.
