We have all had trouble selling ads at one time or another and most of us have adjusted what we do to increase sales and maximize CTR for our advertisers. Its a good practice to constantly tweak until you find what works and what doesn’t but boy if I knew of a simple guide to give me a good grounding I would have paid for it with blood, sweat and tears!

I looked around the net and couldn’t find anything for free on the subject so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to make one. I am by no means a PRO at selling ads on a site but I have made a decent income off my sites to date so those of you who want a free guide that’s what this post is all about. You can also read my entire blog and just pick up the pieces yourself but it may take you a while however there are some nuggets of gold buried deep within my blog so its worth reading if you have the time anyhow.

So lets get started with this basic guide of more ways to sell adverts on our site, I will be covering a few here so grab some coffee and maybe even a doughnut to because you will be reading for a while!

Personal Sales Vs Automated Sales – This is a debate I have struggled with myself for a while but I believe one is better then the other. I am bringing this subject up simply because I have had success in this area and for at least myself personal sales seem to do better for me. I believe its because it allows me to get personal with my advertisers and talk with them about there needs and help them get the best CTR they possibly can. I believe this approach makes advertisers feel comfortable with what they are purchasing and my greatest success have come from one on one sales.

That is not to say that automated sales don’t work splendidly and if your a busy person it may be the better option. If your using wordpress there are lots of automated plugins you can use to automate buying and selling ads for your advertisers. It only takes a minute to install and then its hands free from there on out.

Selling Techniques – Since this post is entitled More Ways To Sell Ads I think it only proper to actually list some more places to list your site and sell ads in. Each blog will sell differently in nearly every case so be sure to use a range of options and not just one or the other. Here is a small but well made list of my favorite ways to list I have ads for sale!

CraigsList – A new technique for obtaining new advertisers that a friend actually shared with me is creating a ad through CraigsList. Just be sure to create it in the small business section so it doesn’t get deleted. It may end up you get nothing from it more then building your brand to more people but if you pay someone 0.50 to submit your ad into every big time city and state you will most likely get a excellent response!

User Forums Like BzImage and DigitalPoint – Forums are so powerful for multiple things including selling your own ads. You could create a buy it now ad in the BST section of a user forum or you can use your signature to sell the ads for you. Just be a active member on a good forum and read my post about maximizing signature clicks, you won’t believe the responses you will get from people!

Email Potentials – One technique to gaining new or return advertisers that seems to alude many of us is the fact that we can email a special deal to advertisers and wait for them to respond. You could hit 20+ businesses about advertising with you in about 1 hr, just make sure your email is legit and lists things correctly you don’t want to lose anyone as a future business deal either. Be professional and polite and you will reap excellent results!

Its a short and simple guide to follow but I believe if you put these techniques to work for yourself you will reap excellent results in the long run. Try many things until you find what works for you, these are just a few that have worked for me!
