As you all probably remember in my post yesterday I asked you all for mmo / blogging questions and I would try my best to answer them. Not 20 minutes later I received the following question from Cheap Sprint Phones who is actually leading our comments contest!

I’m curious what experience you have with non-MMO online products. I mean things like ebooks and video training programs on subjects like dog training, smoking cessation, weight loss, acne, relationships, etc etc.

I’m interested in trying some of these areas, but can’t get over my skepticism that normal people will buy a $10, $20, or $30 ebook online when they could just walk down to Borders and buy a “real” book.

I’m obviously wrong, because many of these products sell very well. But they have a slightly “scammy” feel about them, at least in my mind. I’m eager top be convinced otherwise, however.

TBH I have had only a little time to spend with non mmo products, however I did have some success with what I tried. I actually used to own a 3d training company although it only made around $2k the first and only year it was up, not to bad considering I did not spend any money to advertise the business. All I did was talk to people and they bought if they wanted. (Word Of Mouth)

The company had some problems and the site was not very organized, it also had a terrible domain name which resulted in lower sales and I had people ask me on forum all the time what the site was because they could not remember the domain name. So I guess my first point would be “Get A GREAT Domain Name” no sense in starting something you cant promote with an easy to remember name.

Since then I got out of 3d all together as its to small of a market to sell training to unless your one of the established sellers or REALLY awesome at 3d in general however if I could go back now I would have kept it up as it would have grown and I could very well be making 5k+ per year now which is a couple hundred bucks a month.

Overall I learned so much from running that business! It taught me how to deal with unhappy customers as well as satisfied ones. The main thing to remember is that not everyone will like what your offering so you need to offer a money back guarantee and fulfill it if they ask, they will still trust you as long as you offer the money back.

To answer your question I have not sold any of the materials you mentioned above however I assume the principles are the same no matter what you sell whether it be training materials for 3d or materials on how to train your dog properly.

Another thing I learned and would do differently now is the fact that I did not advertise the business. If I had advertised it I believe it could have made double to triple the income it made that first year.

Lastly I want to encourage you to stick with something longer then one year, one year is simply not enough time to build a presence of trust online, people are taken so easily and it really is important to build trust over time and lots of satisfied customers!

I hope that answers the question :)
