Stop Advertising With PPC/CPC?

Did that title get your attention? If you have ever considered stopping on your CPC / PPC ad campaigns then you have probably asked yourself the same question somewhere down the line. As website owners, we know how expensive advertising for our websites can be. CPC ads can be any amount from 0.10 to 100’s of dollars per click. This raises an interesting point, should we set a stopping point for ourselves? Should we stop CPC altogether? To answer these questions I took some time out and researched my own thoughts and ideas on my ppc campaigns to see if these questions applied to me.

I believe I now have a good answer to the question and today I want to share my thoughts with you. The reason I am writing this article is because of what I read on another article that was produced back in 2004 by a big time automotive marketer. A person emailed him asking whether they should stop advertising their website especially since it is a down time for traffic and such in the industry.

The answer that was given quite surprised me and I learned from the article what I am about to share with you!

To answer the question, no you should not stop your advertising. As long as you are sure you can afford to continue advertising without digging yourself into a deep hole. If you can afford it but just want general advice then why would you want to stop a steady stream of traffic and sales coming to your site?

Secondly the person asked if they should stop in the slow months for the industry. Think of things this way, if you stop in the slow months but your competition stays in, who do you think is going to get all the sales? This also applies to your competition, as they drop out of advertising in the slow months you can stay in it (probably cheaper to) and continue to get the traffic/sales they are letting slip through the cracks.

I have done this myself on a few sites and it is true, the more you stay in it the sooner your competition will begin to dwindle out into a non existent threat. I hope you enjoyed my insight on the subject, be sure to leave your comments below and ask me any questions you wish!
