Building links the search engines like!
If you’ve been doing seo link building for any amount of time you’ve probably heard some seo professionals say that we build links the search engines like.
The only problem with this statement is that new website owners don’t know what it means. Do you? I didn’t think so, today we’re going to dive in and look at what type of links the search engines like and why they like them. There are many link types out there to get but only some of them are considered valuable to the search engine’s, all of the others are useless and a waste of time for us to gather. Let’s cut to the chase and find out together which ones the search engines like so we can maximize our efforts and dominate our niche!
Bad Links
When building links for your own websites or clients there are just certain types of links that you should watch out for, the links were about to discuss are bad for seo and your website. They may be easy for the search engine to detect link buyers which we know from past articles the search engines despise. You need to know which type of links are bad that way you won’t get involved with them therefor a limiting any chance of getting banned from a search engine.
Reciprocal Links
The first type of link we want to suggest you stay away from are reciprocal links. Reciprocal links are a two-way street you’re linking to one person and they are linking back to you. It’s easy for Google to find these types of links and disregard them or even worse penalize them!
Signature Links
Another link type that is no longer effective in the search engines is signature links, not only are they practically useless in the search engines they also throw up a red flag for the search engines to go look at your website and see if you’re trying to buy links or if you’re trying to spam the search engines by gaining rank in positions that you shouldn’t because you’re not relative website to that niche. However as we have discussed in other articles that signature links are great for traffic therefore we do not suggest eliminating them altogether simply tweak it so people will click. And you can check out that maximize signature clicks article on our blog.
Image Links
Another form of links are image links or better known as banner advertisements which you will see all over the internet, again were not suggesting to eliminate these as they are great for traffic but for ranking they just don’t cut the mustard.
Good Links
In this section we’re going to discuss what type of links the search engine do like and appreciate to you help get ranked better.
Directory Submissions
The first type of link that I would like to discuss in the good links section is directory submissions. Directory submissions have been around for ages, all the way back to the start of the DMOZ directory which is now owned by Google themselves. It’s the biggest and the best directory to be in if you can get a listing. However the DMOZ directory has been closed for years and getting your link in there is near to impossible. But have faith, their are other directories out there paid and free were you can list your website in a relative category to your niche. The reason Google and the other search engines are okay with these links is because your website is listed in a relative category to your niche. Google is not against you ranking in the search engines, they are only against you buying and selling links to gain page rank which in turn most people sell links for page rank after they have it. If that’s not your intent then you have nothing to worry about! In the case of InfectedByBugs.com we are not interested in selling page rank we want to sell banner ads to relative companies so that our traffic will benefit them the most.
Relative Links
Relative links are links you get from people or companies that are relating to your niche. For instance if you restore automobiles than being on a site about cars is going to be as close to your niche as you’re going to get. Getting a link on a website about making money online is not going to help you as much as a relative link would about automotive parts. Relative links are needed now more than ever, you used to be able to buy any old link you found, but now times have changed and the search engines prefer relative links. Do the right thing and get relative links and in no time at all you will be dominating your ranks!
3-Way Link Exchanges
Three way link exchanges is where you have a website and it links to another website and that other website links back to the original website. Here’s a diagram:

3-Way Link Exchanges are extremely hard for the search engines to find. This is why it’s the safest link building technique that works!
Blog Website Reviews
Another great way to build back links to your website is by purchasing website reviews on high-power blogs. There are few companies that offer this such as your very own InfectedByBugs.com. The search engines do not discount these website reviews as they are legit traffic purchased links. No PageRank has been exchanged!
The End Has Come
Now that you know all about the good and bad types of link building its time to set the plan into motion and start building links. We suggested getting no more and no less then 10-30 links per day for your website.
As we said before, there are many other ways to build backlinks. Stay tuned to our blog for more link building techniques!
