As most of you probably know I took on Tom from StandOutBlogger.com in a two week RSS free-for-alll challenge! One of the best ways to gain RSS subscribers is to continue providing content.

So today I am going to talk to you a little bit about time management and how you can become a better blogger simply by managing your time more effectively!

It seems some of you have trouble staying focused on blogging and even when you have a whole day to write a post you don’t seem to get it done. The problem is your time management skills, I am by no means a pro at it but bills have made me into a human alarm clock and I know when I have to do something or get something done for a client.

It takes some practice but here are a few simple ways to get more regimented!

Wake Up The Same Time Every Day – Believe it or not if you can regulate your sleep patterns you will have more productive days. Not only that but you will have that extra hop in your walk because you will be fully rested. Give yourself at least 6 hours of sleep, I go to bed at 11:00 every night and get up at 6:30 sharp every day “No Exceptions People!”.

Regulate Your Meal Times- This one is tough and took me time before I finally was able to do it. All you need to do is have meals at the same time each day within reason of course. For instance I have breakfast at 8:00 every single day, I also have lunch at 12:00 every day and lastly we eat dinner at 6:45 every day.

You may be asking… “What does this have to do with blogging?” simply put, by regulating your normal habits the rest of your life and day will fall into line.

Regulate Blog Post Time- I like to regulate my blog post time, lets say I have 2 hrs before I eat breakfast right? Well schedule a post between those those two hours and work on the post till its done. Don’t publish the post yet just knock out the base of the post. Once the post is knocked out go eat lunch and re-read your post again. You will most likely find some errors, spelling mistakes or re-write whole sections of the post. Give yourself time to think and then re-read it again. I don’t always re-read my posts 3 times but its a good thing to do if your concerned with quality postings!

Regulate Play Time- Lets face it guys, its impossible for anyone to work and be productive 10 hrs per day, everyone needs a break and some play time to goof off and mess around. I try to do this at lunch time but if 30 minutes is not enough for you perhaps schedule an hour after dinner and call it “ME Time”. Don’t let anyone take away your Me Time, its important for you to stay fresh. I play the drums and play video games during this time as it lets some aggression out when hitting the drums or blasting my way through enemy lines!

Hopefully with all this info you can learn to work hard, play hard and make cold hard cash! Be sure to help me with the challenge with Tom from StandOutBlogger.com just subscribe to my site (Green Button At The Top Right Of My Site) tell your family and friends to as well!

Thanks for the advice Shannon. I try and wake up around 8:30 sharp everyday, but it never seems to work. I’ll try out trying to do everything on schedule this week and let you know how it works out.

Thank you for posting this Shannon, it is good to see someone that will take requests :) I have a set pattern for sleep, school and food but other than that nothing I try to do ever gets me organised. I have tried gantt charts, to-do list as homepage and loads of other simple things but they do not work for me.

Joe from IMwithJoe posted a similar post, and after reading that one and this one, I have finally decided to create my schedule on paper (or whiteboard when I get one). I do so many things online (blogging, blog promotion, PPC marketing, site flipping, etc.) that sometimes I can’t keep track of what I’m doing. And instead of being productive, I just waste more time.

    Great post here Shannon. :)

    Great tips.

If you’d like a tool for managing your time and projects, you can use this application inspired by David Allen’s GTD:

    http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage and prioritize your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version and iCal are available too.

I am a routine person. This post identifies almost exactly how I live my life. I wake up brush my teeth, and then the first 4 hours of my day never change. I become a little more relaxed in the afternoons but I have a basic outline of what will be done everyday.

Hahaha nice… I think I’m guilty of not waking up at the same time of the day. I should put that on my goals too. Time always flies by when we’re online, we tend to forget the real world.

anyhoo, 1) wake up same time of day (so that means i’ll sleep same time of the day too) and 2) regularize my meal breaks will be added to my list here: http://www.impactfulactions.com/index.php, this is the tool I use in goal and personal management.
