Today I am updating you all on the progress of the idea, how much I have spent so far and exactly what I have been doing to get the ball rolling. I am not rushing anything as I want to make sure its all spot on by the time its done. The first thing I did was purchase a license of CubeCart 4 the latest and greatest version of the software. Back in the day I used to code templates for it and my mom also runs a small business online and she uses CubeCart to sell her products. The license for this php script was $89.95, not that bad considering its the best out there and I know how to us it! The only problem I am facing with this purchase is the fact that the mod I need to allow multiple sellers to check the sales and see if they have been paid for them yet is only for cubecart version 3. If I had know this before hand (I could have looked) I would have just went with cc3 instead, which I may still do because I need that mod in order to do what I want with the website. But doesn’t matter as I have went to the liberty of taking back of CubeCart Modding & Skinning as a potential source of income online. You can view my CubeCart Store here and hopefully I will make a name for myself in the CC world very soon! That aside, after I got the license and installed the script I designed a custom logo and skin for the site, I don’t have the site up right now as I want to get products and such in before I do, therefore here is a screenshot of the skin as it is right now!
I wanted the design to have the orange look to it as I like orange sites and believe the are very professional looking. You can see the logo I showed you in the first part of this series is up-top doing its job wonderfully. As I mentioned before my plan is to get people to create the DVDs for a simple 50% split when the DVD sells. Thus far I have concentrated on PHP developers as I want to offer a PHP basics course on the site. I PMed and emailed around 25 or so and got nearly as many replies back. However although a few said they would but they can’t as there PCs cannot handle recording a video (not enough ram) I have had no luck in finding someone to do the PHP Basics Course DVD. I will continue to look but my plans over the next two to 3 weeks are to contact 25-30 photoshopers for a couple different photoshop courses. I also plan to contact some DreamWeaver and Flash designers so I can offer basic website design training. These are all plans and I could not get around to any of them but at this time I am taking every spare moment and putting it into this site so I don’t think things will take to long to get going. The last thing I want to talk about is what my plans for the next 2-3 weeks on the site itself are! Basically my plans are to either get someone to switch the vendors mod for cc3 to cc4 (not done yet) or downgrade the site and rebuild the skin for cc3 and purchase the cc3 vendors mod and use it on the site until its upgraded to cc4 of which I can then upgrade later on. I would also like to get the support forum up and running, although it won’t have any members posting I can get it up and let it start ranking in the serps which is good for seo as the longer its up the better. I also plan to rework the text on all the pages and ensure everything is explained properly including the fact that we offer every product as an instant download if they so choose. That’s another thing, I have to figure out the download system and how I will get the system to automatically create them a User-name & Password to login and download the video files. It needs to be automatic I think, otherwise people will complain that its not instant. I know it can be done but I may have to hire a custom developer for that (which would be a big bummer). Well thats about it, this is probablly one of the longest posts I have written on IBB as of yet. Although its not 100% for you guys right now I think in the months to come you will all look back on these small updates and see how I have been trying to show you that its not about making money one day or even completing a site in 1 week. Its all about going up the mountain one step per day and being as persistent as possible till you reach success! Thank you all and stay tuned for tomorrow’s post which will be more tips for blogging and making money online! L8R! 30 Jun2008 Selling Products To Make Money Online (Part 1)Posted by: Shannon Lilly in Series PostsHave you ever wondered if its possible to sell products and make money online? Well I am going to find out once and for all while I document my every move for the world to see! I am starting an online training company called SimpleTutors.com. The site will focus on digital training of every kind from Web Design and Photoshop to Coding and Pc help. Its still in the early stages of development but I have just completed the logo and could not resist showing you all it! Be sure and bookmark the site SimpleTutors.com for the future as you never know what you might need to learn!
Let me explain my madness… I used to run a training company called 3dgamics.com but closed it down after finally realising I just didn’t have any 3d graphic skills so I was not qualified to teach others. While the business was overall a flop the last year I ran it I did make about 2,000.00 profit. That’s not huge but it is $150.00/mo business on the net. 3dgamics was my first real company / project that was somewhat successful. Although i closed it down I did learn a lot from it and I learned how to deal with people better. Since closing it I have had thoughts of starting a training company in a bigger market of which I am now finally ready to do with SimpleTutors.com Anyhow now that you know the backhistory to the idea let me explain my plans and all that kind of stuff. Basically I am starting the site and stuff on my own with $0.00 down. My plan is to contact decent artists, coders and pc gurus about the project and get them involved by having them record the training material. They will record the lessons and send them to me via download or on disc, then I will take the lessons and compile them into downloads and DVDs to sell. When a CD or Download is sold they will get a 50% cut of each sale made. This offers them a great incentive to create the lessons because they know I will be doing everything else including promotion of the site which in reality is the highlight of this series I’m starting. I am going to outline and discuss each step I make marketing wise for this new company. That way when it achieves success you all can follow in my foot steps with your own companies and products. To my knoweledge every product business can be marketed in nearly the same way so it should be a great way for all of you to learn! What do you think, do you like this idea and series start? Tell me about it by commenting below and be sure and stay tuned for updates to SimpleTutors.com where we make it simple to learn! |
