Before I get into the meat of this post I wanted to update you all on the category change I just made! I have went ahead and re-named the Safe Traffic Techniques section to Social Media & Traffic instead. I did this mainly because all of the posts relate to social media in general and safe traffic techniques is not really as important in this day and age like it was.
Anyways, lets get onto the tweeting goodness of this post…
I signed up my InfectedByBugs Twitter account several months back, when I first signed up to twitter I tried to get everyone I knew to follow me. Around (47 followers at the time), slowly after time I stopped updating twitter, mainly because I did not see the importance it would have a a few months down the road (now).
Well I came across twitter again the other day, so I fired my account back up (can’t believe I remembered the login info)! I have decided to tweet at least once per day for the next couple of months to see if anything happens, while tweeting I will of-course be trying to grow my follower counts and make money off those followers (go ahead and follow me right now guys)! My frequent updates are now only possible because I got a app on my iPhone for twittering, you can read a review of this app on my BrainLeaked.com blog!
With that said I think its important to note a couple of ways we can build followers and also make money from our tweeter account, so in no particular order here are a couple of tips / ideas I came up with, be sure and add your input to this post by commenting with other ideas you may have!

Getting Twitter Followers?
The first question everyone is asking is about gaining followers on twitter, I concur that this can be a difficult task. Here is a couple of ways that should not only work but be extremely easy to make happen! I will be trying these myself in the coming weeks to see what happens with my own twitter account!
A. Follow me & I will follow you! Its simple, you ask people to follow you with the guideline that if they do you will follow them.
B. Run a contest! Try running a contest to get followers, you may be suprised how well this works!
C. Ask and you shall recieve! Just ask your friends, family and co-workers to follow you! Most are more then willing!
Making Money Of Twitter Followers?
The next thing people want to know is how they can make money off their tweeter followers. I mean, who wants to do all the work of getting followers simply to talk with them every day about useless stuff? It is possible to make money from Twitter but unfortunatly most people will stop following you if you start trying to get money out of them.
@David Hobson, You are right. There have been some unsuccessful attempts to monetize Twitter. Even Magpie tried it but the people who use it loose their followers
Actually David, Your not going to try and get money from your followers…. Your going to pitch the idea to advertisers, your right in that your followers would leave if you asked them but your going to skip them!
I see all the big marketers like John Chow and Showmoney running Twitter contests to increase their amount of followers. I think Twitter has quickly become a social media haven where everyone hangs out to share their ideas
I’ve heard about those Twitter contests as well. Seem like a good way to generate buzz about a particular site. Perhaps monetization of Twitter will occur indirectly, by increasing the number of blog readers and subscribers.

Hmm. Sounds good. It’s true the best way to make money from twitter is through sponsor ads. I would suggest pay-per impression ads. Depending on the amount of traffic you receive..This can be profitable.
The possibilities really could be endless, it really depends how twitter decides to do it but I do know it will be big!

I have been using twitter for a while now and haven’t found it extremely useful for making money. It actually can waste of a lot of your time if you aren’t careful.
You can use it to keep in touch with people in your niche and build new relationships. Which can help you in the long run.
On the other hand, there are people that claim you can more money by having a huge following on Twitter, and they might be right. I just don’t know if the time you need to spend on it could be better spent on other parts of your business.

If we have 10k+ followers like Shoe or John, I think there won’t be any problem to make money from twitter..
I have to agree with George about being careful not to waste too much time on Twitter. Also, running a contest and giving away your hard earned money to increase your number of Twitter followers is great if you’re a philantropist but for most people trying to make any money online, it’s an exercise in futility. Money is much better spent in PPC marketing than buidling Twitter or RSS counts because neither will make you a penny at the end of the day.
Just remember, only a few years ago people were saying the same things about building MySpace and Facebook friend lists for marketing purposes. The people I know who spent considerable time doing that have nothing to show for it.
While Twitter may work for entities who already have a following from other endeavors, for the average marketer, it’s just another means to lead you astray from your goals.
I have mixed views on the subject. A lot of time can be wasted on Twitter as others mentioned. However, it’s important to network and build business contacts. There needs to be a medium. Never let it distract you from your primary tasks.
Once you have a good following you may want to make use of the TweetMyBlog WordPress plug-in. This will automatically make a tweet of your recent blog post for all your followers to see. Very useful!

How about post affiliate link and ask our followers to click n join in twitter, is this ethical and polite?
Holding a twitter contest is a good way to increase follower. However from my view, most people organize a big contest require participant to sign up a affiliate program as they are the referrer and then ask the participant to follow and tweet about their contest… this the one of the way to make full use of twitter in order to make money
