Hello Tyler, Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to be interviewed by me!
1. What made you have to make money online? Perhaps a family member fell ill or you got in an accident. Spill the beans and give me the juicy details!
I loved web design and making websites. Eventually, my main site I was working on at the time, Movie-Vault.com, started to make a bit of money, which to me was just a bonus at the time. However, as the income grew (it wasn’t a lot, but grew nonetheless), I decided to make more websites for money. There’s no better job!
2. What is your #1 tip for monetizing a blog? Don’t give us that adsense junk we know better already!
Private advertising, in my opinion, is by far the best way to monetize a blog. A lot of bloggers have come aboard the private advertising bandwagon lately, and many are seeing the profitable results as well.
3. Have you ever been flamed in a public venue before? If so why and what was the end result? Did it help your traffic increase or decrease?
It’s funny you should ask this, since a friend just messaged me letting me know about a slanderous thread somebody made about me on a forum. So to answer your question: yes, and it happens all the time.
For whatever reason, there are a lot of “TylerHaters” out there. The strange thing is, I’m one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, so all this hatred towards me is confusing, but I just ignore it and it rarely gets to me. I think there are a lot of rumors out there about me, spread from these TylerHaters, which may give people the wrong impression about me.
Most of the time that there is a public flame though, it is almost always for linkbait, and so I rarely reply. As for traffic, I do not see any noticeable gains from these… ‘Events’.
4. Do you think negative website reviews create more buzz for a blog then positive ones? In our experience people enjoy jumping on the negative bandwagon over a positive one!
I don’t think so. I think it’s more about the quality and honesty of the reviews than their disposition.
5. Do you care that your blog is smaller then those of guys like JohnChow and ShoeMoney?
Wow, no way! Why would I care? I will ALWAYS be smaller than many other blogs. To me, I only care about growth – as long as my blog is continuously growing and improving, I’ll be very happy.
6. If you were deindexed by the search engines how much traffic would you lose?
A very small bit; search engines account for only 7% of my website traffic, and 0% of my 1200+ RSS subscribers. This is one of the powerful advantages of blogging: a strong community. The majority of my traffic is subscribed to my RSS feeds, have me bookmarked, or type in my address directly.
Search engines are always a great source of additional traffic, and are one of the best ways to bring in new visitors to your site, but relying on search engine traffic can be very dangerous.
7. If you could go back in time what’s 1 thing you would change? GIVE US THE GOOD STUFF!
I’ll assume that this question is in regards to my blog. Hmm… Difficult question. It would probably have to be to keep each blog post to one topic.
About two years ago, I used to have at least three completely different topics and subject matter in each of my posts. This is very bad for many reasons, and I would advise anyone doing this to stop.
Thanks again for taking the time out for us Tyler!

Tyler rocks! I just started with private ad buys. I think they are great.
Sad to say, I hadn’t heard of Tyler before I read this interview … but I’m taking a look at his blog right now, and I like what I see. Thanks for the heads up.
Tyler is a very cool guy with some cool sites to. His PublisherSpot.com is awesome for anyone looking to get into affiliate marketing.
A very good interview with Tyler, and I particually like “Wow, no way! Why would I care? I will ALWAYS be smaller than many other blogs. To me, I only care about growth – as long as my blog is continuously growing and improving, I’ll be very happy.”
