When it comes to marketing your blog, services or products there is a new digital method that you can use to your advantage. Its called YouTube and if you know anything about the internet you have probably heard about it before.

YouTube is the original video sharing website and they do it the best out of all the newcomers to the video sharing game such as Revver and MetaCafe. Since YouTube is the biggest and by far the best I will be using it in my example / tutorial below. Basically I am going to walk you through the process of uploading a video correctly to YouTube for you to gain the most from each video you put up.

I see so many newb video makers putting there videos up on YouTube the wrong way. If they were to put them up right I believe the would generate hundreds of views if not thousands rather then the 10-20 there video gets in the first week. Some come along for this journey as you won’t want to miss a second of the YouTube video action!

Step 1 - Setup The Video

YouTube has made it very simple to find the upload video page, as you can see below I have marked the button in red so you can’t miss it. However if you can’t see the image you can just visit this link instead (be sure you are already logged into YouTube, if your not or don’t have an account register here).

As you can see above we have arrived at the Upload Your Video page. YouTube has broken things down into a simple form for us to fill out but believe it or not this is the one step nobody pays any attention to. Below I am going to explain what each section you fill out is for and how to use it most effectively (the reason for this post).

Title -Think of this title box much like the title tag for your blog or website. Use it to your full advantage by using a catchy title that contains your top 2-3 keywords. Don’t just list your keywords instead use them excessively, here is a quick example.

  • Bad Title – Dog Care, Cat Food, Dog Fleas
  • Good Title – Great Dog Flea Care Tips, Treat Your Cat With Great Food!

As you can see both titles list what you do but the second draws the readers attention and if they need dog care tips or cat food you just snagged a view!

Description -The next box you need to fill out for your video is the description box. Again this is much like the meta description tag your blog or website should have. Use it to explain what your video is about. Here are two basic examples of a good and bad description.

  • Bad Description – Dog Care Tips For Fleas, Cat Food Selection Help.
  • Good Description – Does your dog itch? Get free Dog Flea Tips and More Right Here! Need help picking out the perfect cat food for your special pussy cat? We have all the info you need!

Once again the first example I provided is dry and uninviting, the second example may be a tad longer but it still contains our top keywords and more of them while providing a sense of one on one communication which draws people in to conversation and guess what? YOU JUST GOT A VIEW!

Video Category -This box is self explanatory I think, just pick the category that best describes what your video is about. Don’t worry if this is 100% wrong and experiment with diff cats as some already get more views then others because people search for specific things on YouTube more often.

Tags – Here is a really important factor that lots of people skip over. I will provide some examples below for this field but before I do think of this field like you would for technorati tags on a blog. Use the same principles here that you would for technorati and you will be fine.

  • Bad Tags – dog care flea care cat food
  • Good Tags – Dog Flea Care Tips Cat Food Selections

I think you understand where I am going with this by now don’t you?

After you have these sections all filled out correctly like you now know how to do its time to hit that Upload Video button! Please ensure you have all these fields filled out good because you don’t want to have to edit the info later on although you can do that, I DONT SUGGEST IT.

Step 2 – Upload The Video

Uploading the video is pretty simple, just click that browse button and locate your video on your hard drive. Once you find the video select it and hit open in the browser box. See below for example…

After you click open all you gotta do is hit Upload Video on the upload video page and boom it uploads! Now that wasn’t so hard was it?

And there you have it, you have just successfully and correctly uploaded your video with a title, description and tags that will help you gain views and possibly subscribers in the long run. Enjoy
