Wait For It

When it comes to blogging we all want to jump on the bandwagon and start a blog and make posts every day. Many of us have jumped into blogging without knowing what we were truly getting into. Some find success, while others find nothing but failure after failure.

Do you ever feel like your blogging work goes no where, does it feel like you hit a cement wall every time you try a new method, widget or advertising product on your blog? Don’t worry, we have all experienced it at some time or another but as you grow as a blogger you will see the ups and downs of blogging better.

When I first started blogging I wish that I would have known about a basic blogging rules guide or something similar that I could go off of on a daily basis. Today I thought I would make a post outlining some things to take into consideration when starting your first blog or even starting an additional blog.

Before you start a new blog of any kind (whether you’re a seasoned pro, or a newb blogger) these techniques apply to you and I go by them before I start any new blogs as well.

Ask yourself…

1. Do I have a passion for what I want this blog to be about?
2. Do I have the time it takes daily to update and manage the blog?
3. Can I afford the initial investment for the domain name, skin and advertisements to get traffic flowing?
4. Do I currently belong to any forums of this niche that I can list a signature link in and gain readers at?
5. If I start this blog, will it be any different then those that are out their already?
6. Is the market I want to blog on already spammed with tons of bloggers giving their opinions?

If you answer yes to at least half or more of those questions I would say you have a decent grounding for starting a blog. Blogging should first and foremost be a love and then a job. If you’re main goal is to make money great, but what is your secondary goal? If it’s not to help others or talk with like minded people you might as well cancel that domain registration you just placed.

Blogging is about your readers, not you. If it is all about you why would they need to read? The majority of your readers are going to care less who you are or what you do, unless you’re a proven name in that industry. If you’re not a proven name it will take time to develop your blog into a prominent resource.

I hope you have enjoyed my basic ask yourself before you start questions. What else do you think someone should ask themselves before starting another website or blog? You can let us and our readers know by commenting below!
