Water Runs To Level Ground: So Does Your Traffic!

Have you ever noticed that water always runs till it finds a place to be level on the ground? Likewise your traffic is very similar in that the visitors you receive will come to a central point on your blog. More often then not that is not our Home Page like we wish it was.

It will generally be one or two posts within your blog where all the major search engine traffic comes from, this is not a bad thing by any means. In fact its great, it allows us to manage our traffic much more effectively.

First thing we need to do is find out which post or page this is, you can usually find this by checking your stats program. All the major ones have it Awstats, Google Analytics and the big ones give even more detail then those.

You can check the point of entry for all your users, you will most likely see your homepage in the top 5, but more often then not you will see a couple of posts above the homepage. All we need to do is use those posts that are receiving the traffic to encourage rss sign ups and encourage those visitors to click through our blog more. Its really quite simple to do, in fact if you haven’t already every post on your blog should say something along the lines of…

As you can see, this message grabs your visitors attention and asks them without a choice to sign up to your blog. I have this string built into my blog on every post page so I don’t have to put it in manually. You could do the same or just remember to copy and paste it each time you make a new post.

I hope you will heed my advice and add a message such as that to every post in your blog. You may just be surprised how many people subscribe just because they like what you wrote. And remember, the more subscribers you have the more you can charge for advertisements!
