Your first SEO steps!

If you are new to STL then you have probably noticed that breaking in the search engines can be difficult. We get e-mails all the time new seo companies and individuals wanting to know how to rank better with their websites. We have a simple but complex answer, the answer is WORK!

It’s like the old saying, if it’s not hard to get it probably isn’t worth it. If you take that to heart and continue to work day in and day out with your website and keep improving your seo rankings you to will dominate the internet for your niche!

However you can’t put the cart before the horse, to ensure this doesn’t happen you need to learn some basic seo techniques. As for here to show you and teach you today, below is a list of basic rules of thumb that we use for we seo a website. If you follow our lead we believe you will have success like we do!

Research keywords: The first thing we do when we start our clients website is researched the keywords. This way and we know what we’re getting into and what we will need to do later on to ensure a top ranking placement that will stay and not disappear after we are done. Let’s face it a customer would not be happy if we got them a top ranking and then later on it fell off the face of the earth for no apparent reason! This is why it is important to learn the basics of seo that way you don’t get into Blackhat seo techniques that will hurt your website and clients in the long.

Research the competition: The next step that we take is researching the competition where our clients want to rank high in the search engines, this is an important step to ensure that our client’s websites get ranked in the niches that they need. To maximize traffic and more sales we need to make sure their ranking correctly! Let’s face it the goal is for our clients to make more money with their business than they our currently making. Why else would they want seo done? To research the competition we simply need to look up a couple of variables that we will discuss later in part two of this seo step by step series.

Research the customer website: After we know which keywords are clients want to rank for and we know what the competition is doing it’s time to get serious and start working on the customer website. To do this we simply need to ensure that their website title tags, meta tags and website content contains the right keywords in the right locations on the website for the maximum seo benefits. For a beginner your best bet is going to be to learn some basic seo. If you read through our blog we have many seo techniques outlined throughout and you should learn exactly what needs to be done and then you can compile your own list of top seo priorities that you will need to perform on your customer websites!

Make site changes: After researching the customer website it’s time to start actually making the changes to our customer sites, you don’t want to jump right into this without doing the first three steps regarding mentioned. These first three steps of the keys to the fourth, without knowing which keywords and what the competition is doing and knowing something about the customer website and content you are practically unable to perform the needed seo changes on every customer’s website. You will use your own judgment once you know the basics of seo to ensure that your customer sites are up to the seo par for the competition. We understand that can be difficult and that’s why in part two of this series we will pick more in depth of what needs to be looked at.

Get the links: So after you have the website is seo friendly you can bet it’s time to start promoting the website. There are many ways to go about promoting a website, the first of course being linking, traffic marketing and social book marking! Once you learn the basics of these techniques you will have no problem promoting websites on the internet, promotion is an ongoing process that should never stop on any website. New content and links should be gathered every month for the whole websites existence. That’s why it’s important to ensure you are customers that without your help on monthly basis to continue promoting the website it could very well drop in the rankings and traffic. This means they will lose sales and potential customers to their competition. It probably won’t drop in rank overnight, but eventually it would drop and your customers would not only the unhappy that they have dropped but you would lose any future business that you may have gotten from them or their friends. The old saying of what goes around comes around is still true to this day.
